Supply of Polysorbate 80
- Grades
- Multi-compendial pharmaceutical grades (USP-NF / EP / JP), high-purity low-peroxide grades for biologics and parenteral use, and food (E433) and cosmetic grades. Peroxide and aldehyde content separate a biologics grade from a general one.
- Packaging
- Biologics grade: 1–5 kg containers under nitrogen · 25 kg and 200 kg drums · IBC for food and technical grades
- Documents
- CoA, SDS and TDS on request; certificate of origin where the destination requires it.
- Delivery
- Worldwide, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and the rest of the EU, the United Arab Emirates, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Quoted EXW, FOB, CIF or DAP.
Polysorbate 80 is a surfactant, a substance that helps oil and water mix. In antibody medicines and vaccines, a very small amount stops the proteins from sticking to surfaces and clumping when the vial is shaken, shipped or frozen. It is also used to disperse oils and vitamins in foods, supplements and cosmetics, where it appears on labels as E433.
Technical details
Polysorbate 80 is a non-ionic surfactant made by ethoxylating sorbitan monooleate with about 20 units of ethylene oxide. It is a distribution of ester species rather than a single compound, so lots that meet the same monograph can still differ in fatty-acid profile and residual peroxides. In biologic formulations it is used at roughly 0.001 to 0.1% to occupy air–liquid and container surfaces ahead of the protein, preventing aggregation during filling, transport and freeze–thaw. Because peroxides and the surfactant's own hydrolysis and oxidation can damage the protein, biologics buyers specify low-peroxide material, tight impurity limits and nitrogen-blanketed packaging. Ehlinar supplies compendial, low-peroxide biologics, food and cosmetic grades.
Appearance: Amber to yellow viscous liquid with a faint characteristic odour; miscible with water, giving clear solutions at low concentration.

Independent third-party inspection can be arranged on request, with the agency and scope agreed per trade. Representative samples can be requested for qualification, subject to supplier availability. We recommend incoming quality control against the agreed CoA.
Quoted on standard Incoterms (e.g. EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP) as agreed per trade. Delivery region, packaging and grade are confirmed per quote.
Documents and services above are subject to supplier availability and confirmed per quote; nothing here is an offer.

Frequently asked questions
- What makes a biologics grade different?
- Lower peroxide and aldehyde levels, a controlled fatty-acid profile, and packaging under nitrogen in small containers so the material is not repeatedly exposed to air after opening. Specify the pharmacopoeias and the impurity limits your filing uses.
- Polysorbate 80 or polysorbate 20?
- Both are used in protein formulations. Polysorbate 20 is the laurate ester and polysorbate 80 the oleate; the choice is made on stability data for the specific protein. They are separate products with separate CAS numbers.
- How should it be stored?
- Tightly closed, protected from light and air, ideally under nitrogen. Peroxide levels rise after the container is opened, so use biologics-grade containers in one go where possible.
