Supply of Magnesium Bisglycinate

Grades
Food-supplement and feed grades, either fully reacted (magnesium bound only as the bisglycinate) or buffered with magnesium oxide for a higher magnesium content. The pure chelate carries about 14% magnesium; the grade is specified by magnesium content and form.
Packaging
25 kg fibre drums or cartons with PE liner · 20–25 kg multi-wall bags
Documents
CoA, SDS and TDS on request; certificate of origin where the destination requires it.
Delivery
Worldwide, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and the rest of the EU, the United Arab Emirates, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Quoted EXW, FOB, CIF or DAP.

Magnesium bisglycinate is magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine. It is one of the most common forms of magnesium in dietary supplements because it is gentle on the stomach, and it is also used to fortify foods and drinks and in animal feed. The pure form contains about 14% magnesium; buffered grades add magnesium oxide to raise the figure.

Technical details

Magnesium bisglycinate holds one magnesium ion between two glycine molecules, each bound through its nitrogen and its oxygen. The chelate is electrically neutral and small, and it is used in supplements where gastrointestinal tolerability is a requirement. Magnesium content defines the grade: the pure chelate is about 14% magnesium by weight, and grades with a higher content are buffered with magnesium oxide. The two are distinct products and are specified separately. Ehlinar supplies fully reacted and buffered grades.

Appearance: White to off-white powder; mild taste; dispersible to soluble in water, depending on the grade.

Frequently asked questions

Fully reacted or buffered?
Fully reacted means all the magnesium is bound as the bisglycinate, which puts it at about 14% magnesium. Buffered grades blend in magnesium oxide to lift the magnesium content, often to 18–20%, at the cost of a less pure chelate. Decide which you need, and ask for the magnesium and glycine assay against it.
How can I check a grade is really a chelate?
Ask for elemental magnesium, nitrogen and glycine content. In a true bisglycinate glycine and magnesium sit in a 2:1 molar ratio, so a magnesium figure well above 14% means another magnesium source is present. Spectroscopic methods such as FTIR can confirm the chelate bond.
Can you supply other mineral chelates?
Yes. Other mineral chelates, including further glycinates, can be sourced on request. Tell us the mineral, the form and the content you need.
How is it stored?
Cool, dry and sealed. It picks up moisture if left open.
