Caustic alkalis
Caustic alkalis are strong bases that neutralise acids and adjust pH. Caustic soda is the most widely used alkali in industry, in paper, soap, aluminium, water treatment and chemical manufacturing, and caustic potash is used where potassium is wanted in the product, as in liquid fertilizers, liquid soaps and batteries. Both are sold as solids or solutions and are strongly corrosive.
